Flight Disruptions at Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong Airport advise today, 13 August 2019, that terminal operations at Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted, and all check-in processes have now been suspended. All passengers in Hong Kong were earlier advised to leave the terminal buildings as soon as possible. Affected passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for flight arrangement.
Passengers flying from Ireland to Hong Kong can keep abreast of notifications from the airport managing company at the following web address: https://www.hongkongairport.com.
It is important to note that passengers departing from Ireland whose flights to Hong Kong are disrupted may not be entitled to compensation from an air carrier when a long delay or cancellation has occurred due to circumstances such as cases of political instability or security risks at their destination airport.
In the event of long delays or flight cancellations arising from this disruption passenger rights are protected under European legislation and it is important that all passengers are aware of their entitlements. The Commission for Aviation Regulation expects that airlines will send all affected passengers information about their rights and entitlements.

In summary the following should be noted by all affected passengers.
If your flight is cancelled your airline must offer you the following choices:
– re-routing as soon as possible;
– re-routing at a later date at your convenience; or
– a refund.
If you choose to be re-routed as soon as possible, the airline must provide you with care and assistance while you wait for the alternative flight. Care and assistance means:
– meals and refreshments in reasonable relation to the waiting time
– hotel accommodation where an overnight stay becomes necessary
– transport between the airport and place of accommodation (hotel or other)
– two free telephone calls/access to email
If the airline does not provide the care and assistance described above, passengers should make their own reasonable arrangements and retain all receipts in the process.
If your flight is delayed for more than 4 hours, the airline must provide you with care and assistance. If your flight is delayed by more than 5 hours, the airline must offer you the choice between continuing your journey and a refund of the cost of your ticket. Please note that it is not possible for passengers to travel and avail of the full refund.
